The 2009 edition of My Special Car Show was a fantastic event for
all car enthusiasts: attended by somewhere in the region of 90,000 visitors – a figure as yet unconfirmed – who
packed out the halls of the Rimini Exhibition Centre during the three-day
event dedicated to customisation on four wheels.
The programme for the final day of My Special Car Show was bursting with events.
There were almost 100 prizes awarded throughout the day at My Special Club, the
biggest indoor rally in Europe dedicated to car tuning clubs. Here, during the
three days in Rimini, the public had the chance to see exhibitions of unique
models, with the highest quality workmanship, both in terms of production and
aesthetics. The My Special Club stage was set for awards for, amongst others,
the biggest single-brand club (first place went to the VW Polo Club, second to
the Z3mendi) and the club that travelled furthest (Palermo Tuning Club). Among
the special prizes were Special Lady awarded to the most feminine car - a Mazda
RX7, Premio Elegant went to a BMW Series 3 E46, the Special Oldtimer award went
to a Citroen 2CV panel van that concealed the 380 horsepower of a Ferrari F355
under the bodywork, and the Special Stage Out for the most colourful design and
co-ordination with the look of its owners.
A panel of journalists chose the Top 30 most special cars of My Special Club – including a Volkswagen Golf finished only the day before the opening of My Special Car Show and a prototype completely rebuilt – and then airbrushed – on
a Peugeot 206 base.
Other prizes went to all the trucks that took part in My Special Club Truck,
which saw more than 25 vehicles take part, some from outside Italy.
Even the world of model building made an appearance at My Special Car Show with
the launch of RC Drift – the
international event and the first world-wide competition of radio-controlled
drifting with more than 40 drivers taking part – including 27 from 5 different
countries outside Italy.
Visitors gave an enthusiastic welcome to Special Pressure Level and Special Sound,
two rallies – both additions to the third edition – dedicated to in-car sound
power and quality: SPL and Special Sound were outright leaders in the landmark
events for the whole car audio sector in Italy.
The excitement never stops, even in the My Special Car Show external exhibition
area where there were test drives organised
by Abarth, and breathtaking displays by the Mirabilandia team – with the Scuola di Polizia (Police School) show – and
My Special Drifting Show.
